It All Starts Up Front

Up until last season, we've seen our team struggle mightily. Quarterbacks came and went. Offensive line came and went. Well, actually the quarterbacks didn't last because the offensive line was terrible.

But, as I said, that all changed last season. Savage put together a solid line last year and it made the whole offense better. With Joe Thomas, Eric Steinbach, Hank Fraley and Kevin Schaffer all back from last year's much-improved unit, I'm feeling extremely confident about the offense this year as well.

You cannot possibly talk about Anderson making the Pro Bowl last year without giving credit to the offensive line — even he is quick to give them praise.

Now, combine an offensive line that is a talented, cohesive unit with top-notch receivers and a hard-running Jamal Lewis and of course Anderson is going to have a great season.

I’m not saying Anderson isn’t a good quarterback — I mean, Charlie Frye couldn’t have done what Anderson did last season. The point I’m trying to make is, any decent quarterback could have had a great season with that supporting cast.

The logical question is: what would a great quarterback do with that supporting cast? I believe we’ll find out as soon as Brady Quinn gets a chance to play with the starters.

Again, I’m not putting down Anderson. In fact, if he can win 10 games for us last year, I’m happy to have him back. What makes me even happier is knowing that Brady is waiting in the wings for when Anderson falters.

And no, I am not trying to create a quarterback controversy. The bottom line is, our offensive line deserve a big, big part of all the credit for last season’s successes.

  1. "Waiting in the wings when Anderson falters" - C'mon Pete, don't let the fresh coat of paint they slather on the Golden Dome affect your senses...if Brady doesn't see the field this season, that means the Browns are up to something really good.

He'll get his chance....it might just not be in a Browns uniform.

  2. As a "rabid" Browns fan, I would like to see Brady get the starting job now! We paid a high price to get, when will this pay off? Will we have a "Favre Like" situation where we force Anderson out so we can justify our drafting of Brady? After Anderson's decline in the last few games of the season, who know how this year will end up! I say it's now or never for Brady, and if it's not now, then we need to get rid of him!

  3. Whoa! What's all this talk about getting rid of Brady? That's blasphemy.

Also, I cannot believe someone would actually compare Anderson to Favre.

  4. I think the defenses in the league will figure Anderson out and begin to pick him off. That is wht happened to Holcomb. Brady will come in midseason and become the starter for the next 16 yrs . He will then decide to retire / unretire/ then sign with the Jets in 2022.

  5. There doesn't need to be a quarterback controversy when the greatest QB of all time is available.

One call and a six pack and the Browns are guaranteed a Super Bowl run.

  6. I wouldn't be so quick to bench DA for Brady. DA fits Chud's vertical passing game better than Brady especially since Brady won't throw father than 10 yards. Brady will be a good one but he has to open it up more of defenses will tighten up on him.

DA's not going anywhere unless he totally crashes.
