Sadly, They're Back

That's right, the pathetic Browns from the first four games of the season are back. The terrible coaching of Romeo from the first four games of the season is back. The inconsistent, poor play of Derek Anderson is back. The Browns who whipped the Giants on Monday night; they're gone.

Unfortunately, all is back to normal in Cleveland. I really hate being right when I said the win over the Giants was a fluke and that we'd see the real Browns against the Redskins.

Yesterday's game was similar with to the game against Cincy — for a little more than three quarters, the Browns played like a badly-coached high school team. Then, all of a sudden the offense woke up enough for DA to, unfortunately, keep his job. What's worse is, they lost this game (insult to injury).

There are absolutely no excuses for the way DA played for most of the game yesterday — Edwards, Winslow and Stallworth were all playing and Lewis was solid, so DA fans can't say he didn't have weapons. I'm not going to turn this into a big DA-bashing post, but let's face it already — he sucks! Sure, he plays well at times and has a big arm, but overall he's inconsistent and he sucks.

The defense, while they still struggle to stop the run, still played well enough for the Browns to win. It's that classic case of the offense not helping out the defense.

Dawson may have missed a 54-yard field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime, but that's not the story here. The story is, the offense — in particular, DA's inconsistency and Braylon's butter-fingers — showed it's true colors and the Browns never should have been in the position of needing a 54-yard field goal to tie.

Terrible, just plain terrible. How can a team go from playing so great on Monday Night Football against the defending Super Bowl champions, to playing so terribly the next week?

  1. With the Kellen Winslow situation now, I have an idea for the offseason: A Winslow-Antonio Gates trade. Think about it. Gates went to Kent, so he's familiar with the area, and Kellen Sr. played in San Diego. If the Chargers were up for it, this may be a smart trade.
