Die Hard Browns Fan: Taco

It's back! The always-popular Interview with a Die Hard Browns Fan feature is back and better than ever.

For this installment, I talked with a coworker of mine. His name is Taco (he's the one on the left) and he's a tried and true Browns fan. In fact, he's been featured on 19 Action News for a story they did about how Mondays after a Browns loss are depressing.

Taco is a Willoughby Hills native and has loved the Browns for a long time. His opinions are thoughtful and straightforward. Like me, Taco tries his best to stay optimistic even when it appears there is no hope.

So, without further ado, I give you the Blawg Pound Interview with a Die Hard Browns Fan.

How long have you been a Browns fan?
What seems like a very long 23 years, or I suppose since they went 3-13 in 1990. That really sparked my love for them.
Who is your all-time favorite Browns player?
Clayton Beauford (1987) Appeared in one game and returned a kickoff…for 22 yards.
Did you ever get to see him play in person?
I don’t think anyone really got to see him play.
What is your favorite Browns memory?
It would have to be watching the Browns run out of the tunnel in 1999 for the first time in a few years (I got chills). Then I continued watching and it became my worst memory because if I recall, they lost 40-0 (Editor's note: It was actually 43-0, but who's counting).
Do you support Mike Holmgren and the direction in which he is taking this team?
The Browns can’t get much worse. So, I believe we need to give him some time. He has made some good decisions and some crummy ones but with anything else, time is needed. I don’t agree with everything he says or does, but it seems like he is going in the right direction. There are larger issues with the Browns then with Mike Holmgren.
What are your thoughts on the job Pat Shurmur has done in his first season?
I don’t like Pat Shurmur. He’s too soft in my eyes and makes some very dumb play calls. For Christ’s sake we are 4-11, go for it on fourth and goal from the 2, DON’T KICK THE FIELD GOAL. Throw it deep sometimes, DO SOMETHING. Whatever, I don’t like Pat Shurmur.
What has you worried about next season?
That we will fall into the same problems we are faced with this year.
Are you optimistic at all about next season?
What makes me a Browns fan, is my optimism, I always start the season with playoff hopes. I know they won't do it but its fun to hope for some magic.
What areas do you think are of the biggest concern to the Browns for next season.
The fact that Colt McCoy can’t grow 4 inches by then. If your O line is being pushed back and your QB cant see over them, how in God’s name will anything good happen. Oh and get some WR’s that can catch the ball most of the time.
Do you believe Colt McCoy is our QB for the long term?
Nope. We may make some kind of run with him but he just isn’t the answer.
Should the Browns re-sign Peyton Hillis?
Yes, for as much as he pisses me off, he is a hard-nosed runner that can get things done. I still have faith in him. I wouldn’t give him a whole lot of money though. Make him earn it, especially after what he did this season.
Who would you like to see the Browns take in the NFL Draft?
I really don’t know this year, every time I choose someone they end up being terrible. Andrew Luck would be nice, but I really don’t think that’s what the Browns need right now.
Who is your favorite current Browns player?
Haden, when he plays up to his ability. And Phil Dawson, hah.
What makes you a die-hard Browns fan?
Two broken TVs, a smashed Tim Couch Bobble Head, four controller-size holes in my wall and a forever screwed liver for drinking as much as physically possible to get through all those games
How much money would it take to get you to wear a Steelers jersey in public?
I hate Pittsburgh.
There you have it. Real answers from a real Browns fan. Thanks sharing your thoughts, Taco, and thanks for being a Browns fans.
